On January 7th, 2017 seven people were arrested for sharing food in a public park. Food Not Bombs Tampa had been sharing twice a week in this exact location, which is next to a police station, for years.
The food shares only became a problem when the College Football Playoff National Championship was in town, bringing thousands of people to Tampa Bay.
After the story of the arrests reached the front page of reddit and made international news the state prosecutor decided to drop all charges. Tampa Food Not Bombs is currently working with the city on a solution and continues to share food twice per week in this park.
